Water-Pereable Concrete Contest

Hijjawi College Organizes a “Water-Permeable Concrete” Contest

The student branch of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) at the Hijjawi College of Engineering Technology at Yarmouk University organized a Water-Permeable Concrete Contest with the participation of 12 teams from seven Jordanian either public or private universities. This distinguished engineering competition was sponsored by the President of Yarmouk University, represented by Vice President Professor Muwaffaq Al-Atoum, on behalf of the sponsor of the event. In his speech, Al-Atoum emphasized the importance of these events in developing students’ practical skills and enhancing their ability to innovate and work collaboratively. Al-Atoum added that this event represents an important milestone in developing students’ engineering skills and enhances Yarmouk University’s position as a leading center for supporting innovation and interactive learning in the field of civil engineering.

The event was also attended by Engr Ahmed Muhanna, Regional Director of the American Concrete Institute for the Middle East and North Africa, who commended the university’s efforts in organizing this competition, highlighted the pivotal role played by academic institutions in supporting the civil engineering sector. For his part, Engineer Salah Abu Obeid, representing the Jordanian Concrete Association, pointed out the importance of student activities in building bridges of communication between students and the job market. Dr. Fares Matalqa, supervisor of the student branch at Yarmouk University, also praised the importance of the competition in enhancing the practical aspect and linking it to the theoretical applications students learn in classrooms.
The competition witnessed outstanding competition among the participating teams, and the following are the winning teams:
• First place: CEIBA team from Yarmouk University
• Second place: ACI Balqa team from Al-Balqa Applied University – Salt
• Third place: YESG team from Yarmouk University
• Most committed and organized team award: ACI UJ team from the University of Jordan
